Tapta begins his journey to bite the reality of serious social issues. Songs like Bandh, Bus Conductor, and Oorit1 create a collage of negative social elements of Manipur. Bandh has been the most acclaimed number in the number. Showing a true picture of what it takes, the song is about bandh (protest blockades and shutdowns) that frequently makes normal life miserable in Manipur. In the number Bandh, Tapta throws up the often asked question: Do protest blockades and shutdowns serve the real purpose? Apart from affecting trade and economy of the state, frequent bandhs in Manipur eventually makes the live of thousands of daily wage earners even more severe. Opening part of the song is inspired by Pink Floyd’s ever popular track Happiest Days of Our Lives.

With his typical exploration on woman’s negative zone, 704 Room is a rocking narration about a high-rated prostitute whom he met in a hotel. Blended with fine-tuned guitar solos, this track is really an impressive rock and roller. In another plot of the same block, Oorit is one of Tapta’s sober investigations on what nasty and wayward girls do beyond their homes and state, as well. Like the deaf Oorit, these girls hardly listen to what their parents talk about life and future career.

Bus Conductor is a well-written humorous lyric describing how young people create havoc in public. The song narrates the story of a bus crowded with college girls sandwiching a barefaced conductor gleefully colleting fares. Other male onlookers, instead of trying to come to the young damsels’ rescue, longed to be the cocky bus conductor. Though the song sounds more like a mere focus on the inconvenient public transport system in Manipur, it also portrays the overall misbehaviour of growing male youth in the society. One more track, Etei Kou, brings the same taste on different plate as it gives a story of brazen man who is attempting to hook young girls. Hold on! Bidyarani is Tapta’s tragic heartbroken cry for lost love.

1. A tiny bird found in flock during winter harvest season in Manipur. A local myth says the bird is hearing impaired.
