Tapta’s idea of launching a new series called GV (Group Volume) was driven by the desire to create a platform for budding talents in the region. However, the songs and the lyrics of this album are too complex for the young vocals Tapta had lined up who deserved better. In the album, Jayanta sings only two numbers, Kokobi and Kari Pijani. And the remaining eight songs are sung by these new artistes. In this album, Tapta’s lead guitarist (late) Pravin Raj contributes a special number called Kok Shai.
This collection reminds everybody of Jayanta’s failure of five consecutive albums in pre-Tapta period. All the albums went unnoticed in the market. Jayanta produced all the albums compiling numbers collectively contributed by his associates. GV-1 brings back the same trait again. So, the album is different from the conventional Tapta from.
If one has feeling of classic patriotic group songs of Manipur, the number Eikhoi Hourashe in the album is indeed one of the kinds. Marching drum beats and chorus in the song is quite pulsating and it brings a spirit of Arambam Samarendra’s1 Chaikhre ngasi nangi loubuk ta nachasingi ekheng (Today, the paddy fields are splatterred with your children’s blood). |
