Tapta Returns
After three years of silence and keeping himself away from public appearance, Tapta performed live with the release of his new album Mobile on 12 January 2008 at Pishum Ground, Imphal. The expected crowd thronged the venue much before the historic concert sponsored by Dubai-based Global Entertainment.

The show opened with a spectacular thang-taa Martial Arts performance by a troupe from Kanglei Ima Martial Arts and Cultural Society. Tapta followed the performance with his popular number Eikhoi Hourase from the album GV-1. Just before the concert, Thongju Naba, President of Tapta Music Band, announced goodwill message and briefly explained the significance of the return of Tapta as a great moment for every fan in and around Manipur.

When Tapta belted out tracks of Mobile one after another, the crowd at the full-packed Pishum Ground went wild. The album Mobile is Tapta’s take on the use and misuse of technology by the youth with the widespread arrival of mobile phone connectivity in Manipur. “The mobile phone is an advanced and useful technology. But seeing how youngsters in our state misuse this technology prompted me to come up with a scathing critique of the same,” said Naba.

Besides seven young male vocals trained and guided by Tapta, other artistes at the concert included Sanaton Sharma, Sangita of Yamaha and Ghayal fame with other new comers Baby Rani and Suchitra. One memorable incident during the concert was singing Bande Mataram from the Wanted album. The music video of the same song was screened at the Southasian Music Videos (FSA-MV), held in Kathmandu from 11-15 October 2007 in the category Patriotism and its discontent.

The bonus track Greater Nagaland in Mobile was the most demanded number at the concert. As the crowd grew wild, which has become a norm rather than exception at every Tapta live concerts, Pishum Ground witnessed an uncontrollable situation.

The frenzied crowd settled calm after Tapta mesmerised his fans with the ever popular love song Nungshiba from Vol 6 and Bandh Bandh from Vol 3. “I never knew that Tapta had vocal chord problem before. His long silence and disappearance was indeed baffling to me. Now that I know and I like Miss Call in his new album Mobile. Today, I can sense the same feeling I had the first time I saw at a live concert following the release of his first album The Power of Attraction”, said Sandam Sanjiv, a Tapta fan from Sairem Khun.
