1st Creative Music Award (For an AIDS Free Manipur)
Folk arts in Manipur are the rainbow of rich traditions belonging to various communities. Spectacular religious festivals and other cultural carnivals of different communities are observed throughout the year. Organised by the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, Manipur University; and GP Women’s College and sponsored by the Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS), the 1st Creative Music Award was conferred on Tapta in 2002. The award ceremony helped open the eyes of those who did not till now understand what a singer-songwriter can really do for the people. Under the discreet guidance of prominent writers, artistes and academicians of the state, the award was instituted to encourage young musicians so that they find their creative destination in the region’s rich folk tradition. The jury members on the award ceremony night also honoured Tapta for his strong folk-orientation. The distinguished panel included eminent writer MK Binodini and renowned filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma.
